THE BEST WAY TO HANG CURTAINS WITHOUT DRILLING

Remember when I said we couldn’t drill holes in our walls? Did you know that our apartment doesn’t have blinds? Also, can you imagine waking up at 5 am because the sunlight is already at its best and is hitting hard on your sleepy face?
So, how could we hang some curtains without making holes, drilling and damaging our rental’s walls? I did some research and found the perfect solution!
SUMMING UP OUR NEEDS
- We wanted to have some privacy in our home;
- Olivia needed to sleep in her own bedroom;
- We wanted dark curtains because there are no shades in this house;
- We can’t drill nor damage the walls.
THE BEST SOLUTION
These Command Jumbo HooksΒ are perfect! They are simply the best! #notsponsored, I wish! I’m just giving my honest opinion because I’ve used them in several windows around the house.
These hooks, are cheap, easy to use, very easy to remove, they don’t leave any trace on the walls after removed AND they are really strong – I can vow for that, Olivia pulled several times the curtains while playing and they didn’t even showed any signs of coming off.
Hanging curtains in Olivia’s bedroom was one of the first things we did once we started settling down in our new home.
HERE’S HOW WE DID IT
MATERIALS NEEDED TO HANG CURTAINS WITHOUT DRILLING:
- Command Jumbo Hooks
;
- Curtain pole (we used this IKEA RACKA
because its length is adjustable);
- 2 pole endings IKEA RAFFIG
;
- tape measure, pencil and level.
I also painted the hooks and the endings of the curtain pole. I wanted to give a personal touch to them π And I wanted them to have a mate look. For that purpose I used this spray paint and it worked like a charm! I just had to give one coat of paint and it was fully covered.
Here comes the step by step of the best way to hang curtains without damaging your walls
Each hook comes with two sticky stripes, put them into place, on the back of the hook. Then measure where you want to hang your curtains.
Put the curtains into place, on the pole. Adjust the pole length. Put the endings. Then, just hang the pole in the hooks! π
The final touches… listen to your wife Joaquim!
So, what do you think? Is this a good idea or what? For us it’s perfect! When we leave this apartment we’ll just have to take everything with us and I’m 100% sure we won’t leave any trace of the curtains’ hangers. These hooks are truly the best that we could find.

Great idea for teachers who can put holes in the walls. I am going to be using this year. Just ordered my stuff from HDepot online . I am using PVC pipe because I need it 10 feet.

It’s a great idea but I just purchased a room darkening curtain rod and with curtains would be afraid to these hooks since curtains sit behind antique table. Will see if they will work for lace sheers though. I have a sun shade rattan blind against the 3 windows (102 in wide) and not sure they will extend far enough out. One thing I am concerned about.. Will the backing come off the wood with out scraping., applying goo gone or any other mess.
About 30 yrs ago, I suggest the tenants in the apartments i used to manage use this 3 M product on walls instead of nails. The tack up (sort of puddy) ended up leaving a greasy spot that wouldn’t come off of the walls and that came thru the paint. This backing either fell off the walls when you wanted it to stay up or when you tried to take it off the top part would peel off and the bottom part stuck like glue. Are you sure it will peel off with no damage.. And do you put it on the wall or on the woodwork?. Mine will go on the wood.

They don’t stay up. I’ve tried this before with Command Hooks.

Well, mine worked pretty good! I’ve had them hanged for almost two years and they never fell. Even with a toddler hanging from the curtains sometimes! π

Double check the weight of the curtain rod & curtain. Some large command hooks are rated to 4 lbs, some to 7 lbs each (set of 2 is 14 total lbs). Also let the command hook sit on the wall for 2 days before putting wait on it.

Would I be able to achieve this if I wanted to hang curtains across a room (the hooks would be facing each other – from opposite ends of a room) as opposed to side by side)?
lenagrosso
15/09/2017 @ 12:07
Hi Pam, sorry but that way you wouldn’t be able to hang the curtains because facing each other the hooks couldn’t support the pole. There’s only one possible position to hang the pole on the hooks and it’s with them side by side. I hope I’ve made myself clear π

Actually, they can be hung with the hooks facing each other. I’ve had to do this in my classroom. Tie some pretty ribbon to the ends of the rid and hook it to each hook.
This works well and adds personality.

If span is short enough (about 12′) you can use a tension rod instead.

This is a great idea! I just moved in to my first apartment and though it came with blinds, they are falling apart and the rod and latch are bent as heck.
Quick question, with the constant open and closing motions of the curtains, does it look like the command hooks are still hanging on? I really dont want to find myself yanking open the curtain one day and the whole kit and kaboodle comes crashing down on my head ^^;

Hi Venna! It’s been almost two years since I hanged the curtains and they still didn’t fall π And my daughter usually plays pickaboo behind them!

This is totally what I need!
I am renting an apartment without curtains and shades.
I am wondering whether the sticky stripes would leave any marks.

Hi Sari, sorry for my late reply. No, the sticky stripes don’t leave any marks and they are super easy to remove π

So excited to find this! Renting a place close to my uni and it hardly has any blinds- it makes me antsy. I was thinking of doing something like this but I had no idea how to possibly go about it. This was a wonderfully well put and simple explanation, I’m hoping to try it out sometime soon π
