RECIPES FROM THE WORLD – AYRAN

Welcome to our kitchen! Come with us and learn how to make Ayran, a deliciously fresh drink that goes perfect with spicy food and helps to ease the heat in hot summer days.
Sometimes I feel uninspired. Yes… I know, strange right? But I do, sometimes I lack cool new ideas. At those dark times I ask for my husband’s help. He not always has the brightest ideas, but other times he’s right on target! Like now!
I asked him for inspiration for fresh content and he just replied “why don’t you share the recipes we’ve been bringing home from our trips?“. At first it didn’t seem a good idea, I mean I was super tired and rejecting everything new. I don’t know why I keep asking him tough questions late at night when my brain is already malfunctioning and I’m super grumpy… But then I slept over it and suddenly it made all sense to share with you all the recipes we learned in our trips and that we’ve been adapting and putting into practice at home.
And so
RECIPES FROM THE WORLD
was born!
The first recipe comes from our trip to Turkey, back in 2011 for our honeymoon. It’s a very easy and simple recipe of a fresh drink called Ayran, made from yogurt, water and salt. Easy peasy!
For me it was an acquired taste, as I had to drink it several times until I could really appreciate it. For my husband though it was love at first sip. Since we came back from Turkey Joaquim prepares Ayran at least once every two weeks, be it Summer or Winter time. When he doesn’t want to make it himself he just buys it at the supermarket, and keeps in the fridge. Yeah, hubby really likes Ayran, he drinks it every couple of days.
HOW TO MAKE AYRAN
It’s really easy, fast and simple to make Ayran. You just need 1 cup of plain yogurt, 1 and a half cups of cold water, salt to taste and ice cubes to make it even fresher. Blend it all together and enjoy!
Measure one cup of yogurt…
And another cup and a half of water.
Add salt to taste (first add just a bit, sip it, see if it’s ok and if not, adjust to your taste).
Add some ice…
And blend it all together! Done!
And there you go! Have it a try (or two, or three, like me) and then let me know if you liked it or not.
