Well, hello there! My name is Helena but you can just call me Lena, like all my friends do.
There’s so much I want to tell you and share with you that I don’t even know where to begin… Let’s see…
On a personal note… Because now we are friends!
I’m Portuguese because I was born in Portugal, but I truly consider myself a world citizen. I’m in my thirties but just because my ID says so. I like to think I’m a young free spirit. I went to university to be a kindergarten teacher, although since I became a mother I stopped working as one. Some day I’ll go back to that wonderful world. I moved abroad for the first time when I was 24 and I’m still trying to find a place to call home. I love that search! When I feel too comfortable or that I stopped learning new things, I get bored and feel the need to move again. One of my biggest dreams is to spend a whole year traveling. I know for sure some day I will!
And about my blog, what can you expect from it?
I’ve lived already in four countries and countless cities (well, I can still count them, but it would take a while). Moving to different countries or cities is great but it also has some drawbacks. Not to mention my own country, I never spent more than four years in the same place. That means that most of my possessions, things that I can’t let go like books and trips’ souvenirs, are in boxes at my in law’s attic.
Each time we (my husband and I) moved we tried to find a house with the complete package, like furniture and some kitchen appliances. We couldn’t invest a lot of money and time filling and decorating a place that wasn’t our own and we knew sooner or later we would leave. So I never felt like I was home.
However, I realized that I prefer to invest a little more money, spend more time choosing the right furniture and making a rented house my home than not being fully satisfied with the place where I spend my days and make my life.
Finally, we are moving to an empty house that over time will become our home! Still with a limited budget and probably with a deadline too, I’ll try to decorate our new home by spending less and making things on my own a lot more.
